I AM DR. SHERI-ANN MCLEAN
I was born and raised on the beautiful island of Jamaica, where I had the privilege of growing up in a nurturing and supportive household. Despite our limited resources, my parents prioritized instilling the values and principles that would shape the lives of my siblings and me. Witnessing their selflessness and dedication to giving back to the community, I learned the importance of honesty, kindness, and support.
From a young age, I possessed a reserved nature, yet deep within me, I harbored a burning desire to make a significant impact on the lives of others. I consistently sought opportunities to extend a helping hand, just as my parents did. Whether it was organizing support and donations for my peers during my time in primary school, volunteering at local old age homes, or advocating for the well-being of younger individuals through the big sister program in high school, I was driven to make a difference.
Throughout my academic journey, I have been fortunate to engage in various roles and initiatives that have allowed me to contribute to the betterment of society. As a peer educator, I was privileged to share knowledge and empower my fellow students. Additionally, I served on UWI leads, actively participating in initiatives to foster personal and professional growth. In my capacity as a resident advisor, I provided guidance and support to students ensuring a positive and inclusive living environment. Furthermore, I trained capacity building, enabling me to assist at-risk communities in developing essential life skills. I also had the opportunity to train, coach, and support teachers in inner-city classrooms, focusing on behavior management and reinforcing social and emotional skills.
My educational background is a testament to my commitment to understanding and improving the human experience. I hold a Ph.D. in Developmental Psychology from Capella University, an MSc degree in Applied Psychology, and a BSc in Psychology with a minor in Criminology from the esteemed University of the West Indies in Jamaica.
